Paradiddles

The Paradiddle is one of the most well-known and used rudiment in the musical scene among drummers. We know this is a rudiment   consisted of the combination of the simple stroke and double stroke, hence the importance in practicing it, sending the message to each side of the brain when one does the simple stroke (counting “1), and when executing the double stroke (counting “1 -2”). This way we will have the real dimension of which side of the brain is acting when we play the simple stroke and when we play the double stroke. This is a detail that makes a huge difference when it comes to orchestrate in the “Sistema Metrico Funcional” Functional Metric System used in this book in which we use the lower limbs (the feet) to play the Samba, Ijexá and the Baião rhythms.

Once the counting process suggested is understood and established at the time we execute the paradiddle, it becomes possible to obtain greater accuracy in addition to the creative and musical power enhancement, since the spontaneity of the exercise/rudiment (paradiddle) becomes a more enjoyable practice, because it stimulates both sides of the brain in a conscious way.

When we use the two hemispheres of the brain to learn something like, for example, cycling, swimming and, now, to play in "Rhythm in Melody", learning becomes more exciting and more difficult to be forgotten.

Next, we will expose eight (8) different ways to play the Paradiddles.
